Both isotopes of chlorine have 17 protons, but chlorine-37 has 20 neutrons, 2 more neutrons than chlorine-35, which has 18. Each isotope has its own atomic mass, called its isotopic mass. In the case of chlorine, chlorine-35 has a mass of around 35 u, and chlorine-37 around 37 u. chlorine. Assuming a worst-case event, we model the release of the entire mass of chlorine from 24 canisters at one time. This results in an artificially large release of 1650 kg of chlorine. We assume that all the chlorine is expelled from a hole in the canister over a 60 minute period, resulting in an emission rate of 0.46 kg/s. Note
